Obituary accuracy
I just thought this was interesting...
taken from the Hartford Press, Sep. 18, 1891
"When friends or relatives of deceased persons, read their obituaries, and find mistakes
as to correct spelling of names, or of dates, they ought not to blame the editor, when
they themselves are the cause of the errors. They will please take notice, that
they have failed and neglected to hand in the facts that would have enabled us to
have written a correct death notice. We make no charge for writing or publishing
such notices, but relatives ought not to leave us to the trouble and expense of hunting
up facts relative to the life and death of friends. Our means of obtaining such
information are limited, and generally only amounts to hearsay, a very unreliable
source for such matters."
